Program Check-in

We are moving along in the program!!! AHHH! So far so good, but I am starting to feel some of the weight of being in school and working in a new place. It is a lot of newness at once and sometimes it can feel like learning overload. One thing I do appreciate about the program is the flexibility. Being hybrid really has made it easier to get work things and school things done. I am definitely a person who procrastinates, flexibility has helped with that a lot and I am hoping that moving forward through the program I am better able to manage my time. Being a student also gives me a different perspective and I am also able to relate to my students more. I am excited for what I have done thus far and am also excited for what is to come.

Learning Theories 101

Learning theories...after this weeks assignments, it is clear that there is so much more knowledge than I imagined related to learning theories. Reading through some of the information links, some of the names were very familiar. I think going through a credentialing program, you might have heard of some of the learning theories, i.e. "Bloom's Taxonomy." Reading about these different learning theories really made me realize that there is so much more to know. Learning how people learn is such an integral part of teaching. This week was also a Nearpod focused week in a few of my classes. Using Nearpod as a learning tool helps to segment blocks of learning and to have a set plan for learning. As an instructional designer, using Nearpod allows you to plan out your lesson sequence considering the needs of your students. Going through this segment of assignments and readings really helped me to reflect and consider the ways I can adapt my instruction to be more effective and c...

What are ISTE standards?

What are ISTE standards ? That is the question we were asked to investigate and reflect on this week. If I am being completely honest, this is the first time I was hearing or learning about the ISTE standards.   ISTE= International Society for Technology in Education The ISTE standards are a set of standards for Educators , Students , Educational Leaders , Coaches , and Computational Thinkers . Going through the standards for teacher and students was a nice reminder of all the work we do/should do with our students. In the technology forward world that our students are entering, it is important for them to be aware of the impact they are making as well as the impact that technology is making on them. In exploring the website and some of the videos, I noticed that one of the teachers was using my favorite classroom tech tool, SKIES . Reminding myself that there are tools that allow for student engagement, student choice, and that are easy to use for teachers makes the applicat...

Welcome!

It is the start of the semester and I am feeling excited. Coming back to complete my masters was a decision I thought long and hard about. I really had to consider the level of commitment I could make to the program, how it would help me to reach my goals, and if it was the right time. I have been teaching for several years now, the last 6 years at the same school in the same grade. This year I transitioned to middle school, at a new school, teaching completely new content. I guess you could say this is a year of transitions. But I know I wasn’t the only one. I was able to learn a lot about my colleagues early on. For our first assignment we created short Flipgrid videos. I really enjoyed watching the videos and learning about what led others to join this program.
